Frequently Asked Questions

How long do fermented vegetables last after opening?

Fermented vegetables can last two years or more after opening. Since our jars are not vacuum-sealed or heat-processed, opening them doesn’t significantly impact their shelf life.

The key to preserving fermented foods is keeping them submerged in brine to prevent exposure to oxygen, which can cause spoilage. If your jar runs low on liquid, you can make more by dissolving 1 teaspoon of salt in 1 cup of water and adding enough to cover the vegetables.

As always, trust your nose—fermented foods are naturally safe and should remain good for a long time.

Are your products Certified Organic?

Yes and no. We are transitioning our product line to organic certification. While many of our products are already certified organic, a few will not be available as organic until 2026.

However, all of our ingredients are certified organic:

  • Our vegetables come from a community of certified organic farms in Wrenshall, MN.

  • Our herbs and spices are sourced from Frontier Co-op and are certified organic.

  • Our ginger is supplied through Co-op Partners Warehouse and is also certified organic.

Do I need to refrigerate your products?

Yes and no. Refrigeration isn’t necessary to keep the product safe to eat, so if you accidentally leave a jar out overnight, don’t worry!

That said, we do recommend refrigerating our products. When left at room temperature, they continue to ferment. That’s not always a bad thing—but full jars can build up pressure, become leaky, or even fizz over when opened.

To be safe, open any jar you suspect is under pressure over the sink!

Do you ship your products directly?

Sorry, we do not ship directly at this time. Please see our retail locations to see where our products are available near you.

If you have a local health food store that works with Co-op Partners Warehouse near by, they may be able to special order our products for you even if they don’t carry them regularly.
